Ask A CO: On snaring rabbits in WMU 50

Q: Is it authorized to snare rabbits in WMU 50, which extends north of Huntsville to South River?

Tim Podwinski, Emsdale

A: Resident holders of a small recreation licence could use snares to seize various (snowshoe) hare north of the French and Mattawa rivers. Wildlife Administration Unit 50 is positioned south of the French and Mattawa rivers so snaring hare shouldn’t be permitted there. Nonetheless, the holder of a small recreation licence could lure various hare, cottontail and European hare utilizing a field lure, cage lure or internet anyplace within the province.

The place snares are permitted, the snares should be made from copper or brass wire between 22 and 24 gauge and the snare’s wire loop have to be at most 10 cm in diameter. In fact, seasons and limits have to be abided by.
