Right here we’ve got a Colt Mannequin 1878 Sheriff’s Mannequin shipped December 15, 1886 to Thomas Carter, attributed to “Arkansas Tom” of the Doolin-Dalton Gang. The laborious rubber grips are interval hand-carved “Arkasas Tom C” (Arkansas misspelled) and “W.Y.”
Born Roy Daugherty in 1870 from a household of preachers, he used aliases together with Tom Carter. He turned a practice and financial institution robber with the Wild Bunch, often known as the Doolin-Dalton Gang or Oklahombres.
Invoice Doolin teamed with Invoice Dalton after the Dalton Gang was worn out at Coffeyville in 1892. Arkansas Tom turned the “hero” of the Ingalls gunfight September 2, 1893, saving 5 gang members battling U.S. Marshals. A number of marshals have been wounded and three killed. Doolin, Dalton, Little Dick, Pink Buck, and Bitter Creek escaped because of Arkansas Tom’s gunplay.
Arkansas Tom killed Deputy Marshal Thomas Hueston in the course of the shootout. He was captured after Deputy Marshal Jim Masterson threw dynamite into his place. When surrendering, he “threw down his rifle and six-gun” – seemingly this revolver. He was convicted and sentenced to fifty years in territorial jail.
Arkansas Tom was paroled in 1910. On August 16, 1924, he was killed by Joplin, Missouri police whereas robbing a financial institution – the final member of the Dalton and Doolin Gangs killed.
