The nation’s most-visited nationwide park will quickly be rising, due to a land acquisition by a nonprofit a conservation group. Earlier this month, the Foothills Land Conservancy (FLC) introduced it bought what’s generally known as the “Oliver Tract,” a 638-acre property in Blount County, Tenn., on the western border of Nice Smoky Mountains Nationwide Park (GSMNP).
After the conservancy closes on the property, on June 8, and transfers it to the Nationwide Park Service, it will likely be the most important growth of the park since 2009, when FLC acquired 627 acres beforehand owned by the Nature Conservancy to extend the dimensions of GSMNP.
The Oliver Tract, which holds dense forests and scenic ridgeline, was as soon as owned John Oliver, a veteran of the Struggle of 1812 who settled in Cades Cove. The John Oliver Place cabin is the primary cease on the favored 11-mile Cades Cove driving loop in GSMNP.
